Camberwell Malvern Little Athletics Centre is open to all children aged 5-14 years. All children compete for fun, fitness and family enjoyment and are encouraged to participate in events in a positive manner, regardless of athletic capability. Little Athletics takes place on Saturday mornings, excluding the Christmas holiday period.
We resume normal competition at Kooyong on Saturday January 30. Enjoy the sleep-ins.
State titles: December 13, Olympic Park
Congratulations to all our 22 teams who competed at the States on Sunday. We ended up in 11 finals and won three gold, two silver and three bronze to finish eighth on the medal table - not bad for a mid-size grass-track centre. Our U10 Mixed Sex 4x200m ran a state record, but had to settle for silver behind Sandringham, who knocked even more time off the record. Knox won 13 gold, Box Hill and Keilor snared six. Special thanks to Mich and his coaches Kate, Graeme and Ian and our team manager Fiona. They did a great job and we think that is our best result since the early 70s.
Our golden crew were:
U14 boys medley - Anthony. Oscar, Luca, Michael and Harrison
U9 boys 4x200m - Ethan, Harris, Harrison, Jack and Riley
U11 mixed sex 4x200m - Kate, Eric, Ed and Georgia

Congratulations to Holly Cannizzo on winning the national schools high jump title for 12 year olds. Holly improved 5cm on her PB to clear 1.56m which gave her gold on a countback. All those years of doing high jump at our centre on a weekly basis obviously came to the fore. She also won bronze for Victoria in the medley relay.
Crystal Creek Coaching Camp
9 boys and 1 girl from CMLAC U10 and U11 went to Crystal Creek camp last weekend. They all had a great time, not only with the coaching sessions but also with the other activities. The water slide on Sunday afternoon was a hit.
Another huge day of high and lows but Camberwell Malvern ended up with five gold, five silver and six bronze medals and we expect about 25 teams will qualify for state titles at Olympic Park. Highlights included Harrison's 53-second 400m split to lift the boys to victory in the U14Boys Medley, our U10, U11 and U12 Mixed Sex 4x200m wins and the boys U9 4x200m win. Full results out soon and Mich's pictures will be loaded shortly. There are also lots of good shots of our kids on the Knox Little Aths website.
Training for the state titles resumes this Sunday at 10am at Kooyong.
Box Hill Relay Day - October 25
Camberwell Malvern enjoyed a super day winning five gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
Our tally placed us fourth behind powerhouses Diamond Valley (10 gold), Keilor (8) and Knox (7) and amazingly ahead of Box Hill and Doncaster - not bad for a small grass track centre. Highlights included wins by our U12Boys 4x100m, U9 Boys and Girls 4x200m and U14 Boys 4x100m and Medley.

Parental guide
Little Aths is not like other sports such as netball, cricket, basketball where paid referees oversee activities. It is run by parents and there is an expectation that at least every second week, one parent from each family should make themselves available to assist in some manner. There are a host of activities that require minimal training, ranging from time-keeping, to recording, to starting races. Many parents become weekly Age Group Managers (minders) enabling them to watch and assist their child’s athletic development.
