How would you describe Camberwell Malvern Little Athletics Club?
We are a small, friendly grass track club. We meet over state school terms 4 and 1 on Saturday morning at Kooyong ground No3- opposite Kooyong Tennis Centre and next door to Vision Australia. We start with a warm before 9am and finish around 11-11.30am. The children break up into boy and girl groups in age groups to do 5 events which are a varying program of runs, jumps and throws. We are geared to 'personal bests' and every child is encouraged and celebrated to perform better each time and 'have a go'. The kids have a record book and get a ticket for each event they can stick in it to mark their progress.

U9 and upwards can compete for our centre. Relays come up first and the kids really enjoy competing as a team. Relays are exciting for both kids and parents and the centre pulls together and barracks for all our kids. Training will be on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings at the ground. The only requirement is enthusiasm and attending training and your child will get a run.

What age can my child start little athletics?
Age is at 30.09.07. U6 and upwards.

I’m not sure if my child will be suited to little athletics. Can children try Little Aths before joining?
If you are not sure if little Aths is for you- you are welcome to come down and have a 'free try out' for 1 session or just watch what we do. You must sign the visitor’s booklet before joining your respective age group. The visitors booklet is located in the main pavilion at Kooyong Park. If you cannot locate it, ask for Jacqui Oldham or Kelli Gorman or just identify your child to the age group coordinator, who will be carrying the group clipboard, so your child can be recorded as a visitor.

How much does Little Athletics cost?
The following registration fee covers both the summer and cross country seasons. You do not need to pay again for cross country if you have registered in summer.

It is our policy not to refund registration fees if an athlete decides to withdraw from the Centre.
Additional fees are charged for the optional relay, and track and field regional titles.

2006/2007 Fees Full season  Post X-mas
1st child  $90  $50
2nd child  $80  $50
Others  $70 $50

What level of ability do children have to have to join?
Our emphasis is on fun and fitness. Children can join with any level of skill or fitness. Children are given plenty of encouragement to achieve personal bests.

What is expected of Parents / minders?
It is expected that at least every second week, one parent from each family should make themselves available to assist in some manner and there are a host of activities that require minimal training, ranging from time-keeping, to recording, to helping in the canteen. Most parents are required to be age group minders for their child’s age group on a weekly basis. This role requires minders to take athletes around to events in program order and recording results of field events. Victorian Little Athletics Association guidelines require that a parent or guardian of each child remain at the ground for the morning's events. WE ARE NOT A CHILD-MINDING CENTRE. If you would like to be placed on a specific activity each week, please advise Chris Muirden via the enquiry form on this website.

Are there any rules for the athletes?
Each age group for girls and boys is under the control of an Age Group Minder who coordinates Saturday morning activities. No child is to leave the age group without the permission of the minder. Gardiners Creek, that runs alongside the athletics centre, and the playground beside the main pavilion. Little Athletes must have appropriate footwear. Running shoes are compulsory.  Spikes are only permitted for  U12s to U15s. Little Athletes are also expected to behave in a proper manner with their friends and parents and uphold the centre’s motto of “family, fun and fitness”

What do little athletes wear?
For centre competition on Saturday, athletes can wear a T-shirt/singlet of any colour, and shorts. Footwear must be worn at all times.  The registration label with the athlete's name and age group should be attached to the front of the shirt. By sewing the sides and bottom of the label it can be used as a pouch to store the result tickets that are given for each event. Your results may not be recorded if you are not wearing your label. Children who wish to compete at ‘Regional or State titles, or in the cross country program, need to purchase the Centre’s uniform which consists of red shorts and a light blue top with the Centre logo.

Red shorts or bike knicks - $15
Club singlets - $30
