Competitions

Regional and State Championships

Track and Field

The Track and Field Championships are open to every member of our centre in the U9 age group and older.  The only eligibility requirement is that the athlete must have competed in at least 50% of our centre competition days prior to the Regional Championships which are held in the middle of February.

Athletes firstly compete in the Eastern Metropolitan Regional (EMR) Championships which involves athletes from other centres in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.  Athletes competing at the Regional Championships may qualify for the State Championships which are held at Olympic Park in March.

Relays

Relays provide an opportunity for athletes aged under 9 and older to participate in team events and to learn relay skills.  Relays also allow athletes and their families to form lasting friendships that are crucial to the development of all athletes.  The club has performed well in relays, particularly in mixed sex events.  Our athletes enjoy competing in teams and cheering on club mates.

To register your interest, please contact the Relays Manager - Chris Muirden.  A small fee is charged to cover these events.

Training is normally conducted on Wedensday afternoon and Saturday morning.  As relays are a team event it is important that athletes be committed to attending training and competition days so the team is not let down.

During October, Open Days are organised by nearby centres.  These Days give the athletes an opportunity to compete against other centres.  After the open days, athletes are placed in teams to compete at the Regional Championships.  At the Regional Championships some teams may qualify to progress to the State Championships held at Olympic Park in December.  This is an exciting and colourful day for all involved.

To qualify for the State Championships is a great achievement and all athletes who competed at the State Championships are to be congratulated.

And one more thing....  All centres are required to supply officials at the Regional and State Championships.  A roster is organised by the our Centre, and parents should be willing and prepared to do ther duty of a couple of hours when their child is competing.
