Hello all

What a great weekend we had at Knox. All the Camberwell/Malvern kids performed amazingly well. We ended up with 8 gold, 13 Silver & 12 Bronze medals for a total of 33 medals. This was up 7 medals from last year! We also had a record number of kids make finals which in turn means that more kids will qualify for the State Titles in Bendigo in 5 weeks time.

The U9 athletes collected 9 medals which is a great effort for their first T&F meet. Andrew Mathieson collected 3 bronzes, Max McEwan-Smith made 4 finals as did Jack Sturzaker who won a gold in the 80h, Timnah Davies a silver in the TJ, Lucy Wentworth a silver in the HJ and her look-alike Charlie Rowbottom 2 silvers, a bronze and a 4th place.

The U10s did just as well with 8 medals, Harry Shaw continues to improve and collected a silver and 2 bronzes, Sam Hume again performed well winning a gold in the LJ, silver in the TJ and a bronze in the HJ (he obviously like to jump), Freddy Strong flew in the 60H & picked up  silver and my highlight on Sunday was seeing Kai Veestergaard running the perfect race to win gold in the 400m, his time of 1:08 would have won gold in the U11 boys event.(we may have uncovered a new Harry Roubin in the 400)

The U11’s had less entries but still collected 4 medals. Caelan Filippis picked up bronze in the LJ & was just pipped for bronze in the TJ, Ethan Dossetor was very unlucky to be also pipped for a bronze in the 200m, Kate Sturzaker picked up silver in the 100m, bronze in the 60h and also a 4th & 5th and Harry Stubbings came of his sick bed to win gold in the 100m with a fantastic run.

The U12’s with whom I have a close affinity performed exceptionally with 7 medals. Catherine Wicks pickup silver in the shotput & 4th in the discus, Jemima Woolston a bronze in the 200m, Elodie Latour won 2 silvers in the TJ & LJ with a big PB, Dexter Ryan finished 4th in both the 80h & 100m finals and Gabe Shaw again showed his class picking up silver in the LJ & 100m and a really gutsy gold in the 200m. First timer Alexander Siorthis made two finals as did Sophia Davis who ran a beautiful 200m heat.

The U13’s-15’s had less entries but just as many highlights. James Hunt ran his heart out in the 800 & 1500m events to be 4th in both, he backed that up with 5th in the TJ and a bronze in the HJ, Jess Muirden ran really well in both 200m & 400m finals to just finish out of a place, pocket rocket Georgia Hansen again stood up finishing 4th in the 400m, winning bronze in the 200m and then ran an amazing 1500m to win gold by 17 secs (which was the length of the straight!) Then in her final EMR meeting Holly Cannizzo showed why she has been one of the best athletes CMLAC has ever had compete by winning the HJ with a PB of 1.66m and then the LJ with another huge PB of 5.36m. Well done Holly.

I would like to thank all the parents for doing their marshalling duties and also to the people who helped out with extra roles which made my job a lot easier. Thanks to Matt Bromley for being there on Sat at 7am to help me setup. I would also like to thank Steen Vestergaard who again has taken some fantastic photos of the kids and can be accessed by the link below. Steen has now been doing this for the club for a couple of years which we really appreciate.

As for State Qualifications hopefully I will know by the end of the week. Normally the medalists from each event will progress, however, as EMR is a very strong region sometimes down to 6th or 7th may qualify. As the meeting is in Bendigo on the 24-25th of March there may be a number of scratchings from people who cannot make the trip that weekend. This works both ways as it may benefit our athletes who may have just missed out on qualifying. If you do qualify and you cannot make it I would ask if you could let me know asap so I can notify the LAVIC and they can then give the opportunity to other athletes to progress. As soon as I know I will publish. If you are looking for accommodation around Bendigo I have attached the LAVIC website which has a direct link for accom.

I have also attached a list of results for our athletes as well as the official results sheet from the EMR.

I have all the individual result cards which I will bring to the club this Saturday and will be in the clubrooms for collection. The State Relay cards will be there as well.

Once again thanks again for making the meeting so successful for CMLAC and hopefully we will see a lot of you at Bendigo.
